Hello everyone!
I wanted to take this meeting easy, so we decided to watch a documentary! We first decided on Poor Kids, a PBS FRONTLINE documentary on how poverty affects children in America, but since a student recommended this, that meant that she had seen it already. We then found Solitary Nation, another PBS FRONTLINE documentary, which highlights solitary confinement in a Maine maximum-security prison. Here is the link if you'd like to watch it yourself: http://video.pbs.org/video/2365229709/
We had some good discussion afterwards, talking about how labels affect these convicts, how they are self-fulfilling prophecies and so on.
We then watched a Vsauce YouTube video, to sort of get us out of the funk of how bad solitary confinement is. We watched What Will We Miss?, Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uiv6tKtoKg. It's pretty interesting, and I love Vsauce's videos a lot!
Thanks to Kara Swain for the super yum popcorn too :)
Have a good week everyone, and MSA is this Saturday!! Yay!
